Connecting Valdosta, South Georgia, and Korea through Language, Culture, and Community

King Sejong Institute Valdosta at Â鶹ÊÓƵ provides opportunities for students and members of the broader community to learn the Korean language, experience Korean culture, and deepen their understanding of Korea.

The Institute was established through a partnership among Â鶹ÊÓƵ, the King Sejong Institute Foundation, and Hannam University in South Korea. The King Sejong Institute Foundation is a public institution supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and promotes Korean language and cultural education around the world.

As part of a global network of approximately 280 King Sejong Institutes in 89 countries, King Sejong Institute Valdosta connects Â鶹ÊÓƵ and South Georgia with a growing international community of learners interested in Korea. The United States currently has 14 King Sejong Institutes.

Housed in the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, King Sejong Institute Valdosta supports Â鶹ÊÓƵ's commitment to preparing students for an increasingly interconnected global environment. Through Korean language education, cultural programs, community engagement, and partnerships, the Institute creates opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage directly with Korean language and culture.

The Institute also seeks to strengthen educational, cultural, and community connections between South Georgia and Korea, particularly as relationships between Georgia and Korean businesses and communities continue to grow.

Korean Language and Cultural Programs

King Sejong Institute Valdosta offers programs designed for both Â鶹ÊÓƵ students and members of the surrounding community. Participants do not need prior knowledge of Korean to get involved.

Programming may include:

  • Korean language courses from introductory through advancing levels
  • Hangeul and introductory Korean workshops
  • Korean conversation and practical language activities
  • Korean calligraphy and traditional arts
  • Korean food and culinary culture
  • Korean holidays, customs, and history
  • K-pop, Korean film, television, and contemporary culture
  • Guest lectures, performances, and special cultural events
  • Opportunities for cultural exchange with Korean students, universities, and partner organizations

Many King Sejong Institute programs are offered free of charge or at minimal cost, making Korean language and culture accessible to both the university and the broader community.

Opportunities for Â鶹ÊÓƵ Students

King Sejong Institute Valdosta provides Â鶹ÊÓƵ students with opportunities to develop language skills, cultural competency, and a deeper understanding of one of the world's most dynamic economies and cultures.

Students may have opportunities to participate in:

  • Korean language and culture courses
  • Korean speech and writing competitions
  • Cultural workshops and performances
  • Korea-related lectures and community events
  • Exchange and collaborative activities with students and institutions in Korea
  • Programs and competitions sponsored by the King Sejong Institute Foundation
  • Opportunities to learn more about study, language training, and scholarship programs in Korea

Students who participate in King Sejong Institute programs may also become eligible for selected programs offered by the King Sejong Institute Foundation, including international competitions, Korean language learning opportunities, and cultural programs in Korea. Specific eligibility requirements vary by program and year.

Community Engagement

King Sejong Institute Valdosta is not limited to Â鶹ÊÓƵ students.

The Institute is designed to serve Valdosta, Lowndes County, and the broader South Georgia community by providing opportunities for people of all backgrounds to learn about Korea.

Community members may participate in Korean language classes, cultural workshops, public lectures, performances, festivals, and other special programs hosted throughout the year.

Through these activities, the Institute aims to promote cross-cultural understanding and build stronger connections among Â鶹ÊÓƵ, local communities, Korean organizations, and educational and business partners.

Korea, Georgia, and Global Business

Georgia's economic and business relationships with Korea have expanded significantly in recent years. King Sejong Institute Valdosta offers students and community members an opportunity to better understand the language, culture, and business environment of Korea while helping build connections between the university and Korean communities and organizations in Georgia.

For business students in particular, exposure to Korean language and culture can complement their preparation for careers in an increasingly global marketplace and strengthen their ability to work effectively across cultures.

King Sejong Institute Foundation

The King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF) is a public institution under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. It supports King Sejong Institutes around the world in providing high-quality Korean language education and Korean cultural experiences.

In 2026, the global King Sejong Institute network expanded to approximately 280 institutes in 89 countries.
