VALDOSTA – Hannah Pittman is Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s 2016 Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society Leonard Senior Book Award recipient.
“I feel incredibly honored to be picked from amongst my amazing peers for such a prestigious award,” said the daughter of Melissa and Jerry Pittman II of Statenville.
Named for the late Maria Leonard who founded the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for First-Year Students in 1924, the Senior Book Award is presented to a senior who is an active member of Alpha Lambda Delta and has the highest cumulative grade point average in their graduating class.
As a student at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Pittman served as a biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology tutor in the Student Success Center for three years.
A regular on the Dean’s List, she also received the Department of Biology’s 2016 Annual Senior Award.
Pittman graduated from Â鶹ÊÓƵ on May 7 with a Bachelor of Science in biology.
She is currently in the process of applying to medical school.
“I’ve wanted to be a practicing physician since middle school and have stuck with that dream throughout the rest of my academics,” she said. “I’m very interested in pursuing [a career in] general surgery or transplant surgery.”
