Â鶹ÊÓƵ to Honor Veterans Nov. 11

VALDOSTA — Â鶹ÊÓƵ will honor United States service men and women with a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, on the steps of the Student Union. The public is welcome to attend.

Sponsored by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA) and the Office of Adult and Military Programs, the ceremony will begin with a display and presentation of the Battlefield Cross by the Moody Air Force Base Air Leadership School, followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Cecil P. Staton, interim president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

Lt. Col. Reginald McCutcheon, a U.S. Air Force veteran and Â鶹ÊÓƵ student, is the featured speaker and will share experiences from his 34-year military career.

Veterans from the Â鶹ÊÓƵ campus and the Valdosta community will read the names of more than 200 fallen service members from Georgia who were involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. They will also read the names of those stationed at Moody Air Force Base who died in service to their country.

The event will conclude with a moment of silence.

“The Valdosta community has a rich history with the military, and Â鶹ÊÓƵ has served active-duty personnel, their families, retirees, and veterans at Moody Air Force Base for over 30 years,” said retired U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Mark A. Smith, adult admissions counselor in the Office of Adult and Military Programs and Â鶹ÊÓƵ SVA chapter adviser. “It’s a great partnership, and the Veterans Day event is an excellent way to show how much we appreciate the sacrifice our veterans have given in service to our country.”
