Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s PRSSA Hosts Annual Faculty Roast Nov. 17

VALDOSTA — The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at Â鶹ÊÓƵ will host its third annual faculty roast at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, in the Student Union Theatre. Admission is $1 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Suzannah Patterson Public Relations Student Travel Scholarship and Raymond Young Speech Communication Student Travel Scholarship.

Dr. Joseph Mitchell, an assistant professor in Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Speech Communication Area, has volunteered to allow students, friends, fans, coworkers, and others to mock and subject him to comedic insults, praise, outlandish stories, both true and untrue, and much more.

Dr. Dacia Charlesworth will be the second roastee of the night. She is a noted scholar and university ambassador with a doctorate in speech communication. She will be roasted by her husband, Â鶹ÊÓƵ President William J. McKinney. Because of her extensive involvement with Â鶹ÊÓƵ students, former Student Government Association President Will Jimerson will also provide some light-hearted ribbing and comedic remarks about the university’s first lady.

Roasts are traditionally seen by those being roasted as a great honor. Roastees take the jokes, disses, or comebacks in good humor.

Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for $1. Drawings will take place throughout the evening for various prizes, including free Chick-fil-A for a year and gift cards from local businesses. Proceeds will benefit the two scholarships.

The Public Relations Student Society of America is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications. It seeks to advance the public relations profession by nurturing generations of future professionals and advocates rigorous academic standards for public relations education, the highest ethical principles, and diversity in the profession.
