Â鶹ÊÓƵ Foundation honors scholars and donors

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Foundation, Inc., honored Â鶹ÊÓƵ scholarship recipients and their donors Tuesday, Nov. 16, at its Eighth Annual Scholarship Luncheon held at the University Center. Students and donors were given a rare chance to meet and become acquainted. This year, 46 scholarships were spotlighted with approximately 140 people in attendance.

The Mrs. Lee M. Bennett Art Scholarship was one scholarship that was spotlighted. This scholarship, launched in 1997, supports art majors in memory of Bennett, formerly an art professor at Â鶹ÊÓƵ for 33 years. "It was Lee's desire to improve the quality of the students of the art department," said Harold Bennett, her husband.

Throughout the Valdosta community, private donors and corporations have given scholarships to encourage the pursuit of education. One such company is the Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corp., with its Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corp. Business/Athlete Scholarship and Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corp. Scholarship awarded annually through Jerry and Kay Jennett.

"Jerry and I really enjoyed meeting the students; before the scholarship started, it was just sheer luck to meet the recipients," Kay Jennett said. "It's nice to meet and talk with the students in person rather than just on paper."

Students interested in any of the Foundation or university scholarships for Fall 2000 should contact the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Financial Aid Office in January 2000 and pick up an application.
