One-on-one Applied Studies
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ undergraduate performance majors have two one-hour lessons per week – double the face-to-face time with a private instructor in most college programs. You will also have a weekly studio class focused on techniques, scales, fundamentals, and varying performance-based topics.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has a low and affordable tuition and in-state tuition for all bordering states for the highest quality and level of education. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ students can qualify for the Hope Scholarship (Georgia residents only), merit, academic, and Honors College scholarships.

You have the opportunity to play side-by-side with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ professors, music professionals, and other Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ music students in the American Prize winning Valdosta Symphony Orchestra

Guitar Audition Requirements
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MUSIC (GENERAL AND MUSIC EDUCATION)
- 12 major scales (1 octave) and one of the following:
- One solo from the standard classical guitar repertoire, or
- One solo from the Berklee Modern Method for Guitar, or
- One selection from studies by Sor, Carcassi, or Tarrega
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MUSIC – JAZZ TRACK See Jazz Area Requirements
General audition requirements for a Jazz major include:
- Major scales and arpeggios
- Classical etude or solo
- Jazz etude or transcription (for example Snidero, Fishman, Mintzer books)
- Standard jazz tunes with Aebersold or iRealPro accompaniment (play the melody and improvise, rhythm section instruments also play chords/bass lines)
- Sight-reading
BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE - CLASSICAL
- 12 major scales (minimum 2 octaves) and:
- Two contrasting pieces from the standard classical guitar repertoire (may include one selection from Sor, Carcassi, or Terraga studies).
BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE – JAZZ
General audition requirements for a Jazz major include:
- Major scales and arpeggios
- Classical etude or solo
- Jazz etude or transcription (for example Snidero, Fishman, Mintzer books)
- Standard jazz tunes with Aebersold or iRealPro accompaniment (play the melody and improvise, rhythm section instruments also play chords/bass lines)
- Sight-reading
MASTER OF MUSIC IN PERFORMANCE - CLASSICAL
Thirty minutes of music in a recital-type format. Audition should include pieces from the standard classical guitar repertoire across a range of musical eras and contrasting styles.
